Introduced through the network of social media some 2 years ago, Fletcher and Murray have since curated a collection of furniture and interpretations thereof that represent the contrasts of form in chair design. Fletcher's charcoal drawings focus on foundational structure of the subject, as well as the drawing process itself. M urray's furniture restoration is elemental, ensuring that with artisan detailing each piece still makes reference to its period. Six years ago Murray sketched his first Josh & Louis furniture release. Inspired by the opulence of Louis XV, the L'original Salon Chair Collection was launched 12 months on. This collection boldly married strong colour and flawless contemporary detail with the most classic of French forms. In search of a fresh canvas, for this exhibition Murray has worked with contrasting period pieces expressing details from a past era with subtle additions of modernity. For Fletcher, the chair has been a frequent presence in his drawing, an instantly familiar and recognisable object, with a myriad of forms. To capture these basic structures simply by using charcoal and paper is the challenge. Occasionally the drawings are illustrative, a truthful representation of the chair. At other times the mechanisms of drawing become prominent, revealing the subtleties and directness inherent in making marks with charcoal. _______
